Nav one 4500 good unit

by   mjg45 ,   Dec 12, 2005

Pros:  Excellent screen size, ease of use

Cons:  Wish it would invert it's maps in night mode.

The Bottom Line:  I recommend this unit if your starting out. If you want something more it will cost you more.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I just bought this gps. It is my first unit. I researched many gps units. This Nav one 4500 seemed to have much of what I was looking for. The unit has a very easy to use interface. Sitting in your car for about 25 minutes will allow you to become fluent in it's working.

The first thing I liked was the ease of use of the unit. The second was the big screen. You have a choice of a car or an arrow showing were you are on the map.

When in trip mode you will see how far to your next turn in the top left corner. Top center above the map you will see time to get to your destination and actual mileage to get there.

In the more button on side of map you can bring up different functions of the two trip meters. Currently I have max speed current speed and average speed running. All work flawless.

The big map screen has 14 different levels of magnification from the whole united states to fifty feet around the car.

The map can be brightened or darkened depending on whether it is day or night. In the day full brightness keeps the screen from washing out in the sun light. At night you must turn it down to about 15% of it's total brightness. The automatic sensor seems to me to a bit much to strong at night dimming the map a little to much. This can be corrected by just staying in the manual mode ( setting it yourself ).

One of the nice features is seeing all the satelites you can get. I got nine out of twelve sats. Plus there are so much more features to go through now. Voice option is excellent, Good and loud. Clear directions just at the right time.

I am truely satisfied with is unit. Not bad for a first time buy.

The cost of the unit is up there though . You get what you pay for. This unit cost me online $750. That includes a $40 rebate. You have to search for the good buy.
