No-frills GPS100, cheap and effective

Date of Review:  Jan 17, 2005
The Bottom Line: For a first-time user into the world of GPS, I'm quite happy with it. Just need to get the adapter and external antenna...
Review: Lots of pros and cons to this unit-- I got mine for $50 on ubid, so I didn't pay much for it at all.

CONS:I've discovered that this thing EATS batteries! It is constantly accessing or trying to find satellites, which consumes the...

Third Time's A Charm

Date of Review:  Jan 21, 2004
The Bottom Line: The fact that it took two replacements to obtain a trustworthy unit isn't comforting, but I'm impressed with it now. Plus, that COBRA Support is great!
Review: NOTE: I've revised my review of Cobra 100 GPS because I've better learned its operation over the last three years. I previously did not recommend it, but now I can see that it's capable and reliable...generally above average.

HISTORY: I...

Inexpensive, and works that way

Date of Review:  Aug 9, 2004
The Bottom Line: Not recommended. Whistler has a lot to learn about making a useable GPS.
Review: After looking for an entry-level GPS unit, this one seemed too good to be true. On sale with a full US street map CD set for $140!

The disappointments started when I loaded the Whistler Map CD software. There's no setup program, so I...

You get what you pay for

Date of Review:  Feb 19, 2005
The Bottom Line: the overall performance of this unit is well below that of the main players - primarily due to its poor satellite lock in vehicles and in tree cover.
Review: This is a fully featured GPS unit, let down by its skittish satellite performance, inexcusably poor backlight, and its battery consumption. However if you can get it for under $80 at uBid, it s a fun toy when it works. I wouldn t buy this as a...

What a shame.

Date of Review:  Jan 6, 2004
Review: I am new to the GPS user world and had high hopes for this unit. Its primary use was going to be simple for hunting & hiking help. I have read several negative reports that describe fairly accurately the same troubles I have. To be brief, my...

Great Addition to GPS 100

Date of Review:  Nov 12, 2004
The Bottom Line: The detailed maps and POIs are a great addition to the GPS.
Review: The upgrade pack is a great addition to the Whistler GPS. The maps are very detailed and current. The GPS shows the road name you are on and the cross street names when you pass corners. It even has small roads such as in parks.

It also...

Never Get Lost!

Date of Review:  Nov 12, 2004
The Bottom Line: A great deal for the price.
Review: I recently bought a Galileo 100. My wife and I are now hooked on geocaching.

The unit fits nice in the hand, the display is easy to see, and it seems very accurate. I have not had any problems getting satellite signals including on nature...

Does very well

Date of Review:  Feb 22, 2004

Good Product at Great Price

Date of Review:  Dec 19, 2003
Review: The detailed mapping with locations built in was pretty cool. Mapped a trip recently and it took me directly to the hotel. It even has some restaurants and many gas stations listed that saved us some time on the road.

Ok Unit

Date of Review:  Aug 8, 2005
Review: Yeah battery life sucks on this thing but if you use it for your vehicle then a power adapter overcomes this. Have a hard time getting satellites at night... Don't understand that one. Getting an external antenna for it since I use it in the vehicle...
