Powerful, Tight Bass
Pros:
Very strong, tight bass;
Very efficient - don't require much power;
Comfortable;
Sturdy cord
Cons:
Diminished highs can make them sound muffled
The Bottom Line:
A strong recommendation for people who listen primarily to rock music because of the great bass. For others, a cautious recommendation because they tend to make some music sound muffled.

I found these Coby CV-200 headphones for only $10 at a clearance store. I was looking for headphones that had a longer cord than the short 1 meter cords that come with the cheap headphones packed with portable CD players, because I want to use them with a computer. The cord on these is 2 meters long and has the standard mini-plug (gold-plated, too!). The cable is thicker and sturdier than other cheap headphones I have used. A quarter-inch adapter for good-quality audio equipment is also provided.
These headphones rest on the ears, not around them, so they do not keep out external noises. Whether that is good or bad is up to you. I listened to them for hours at a time and found them to be very comfortable, both on my ears and on my head. The headband is well padded.
Most low-end (bottom-end?) headphones have fairly good highs but are lacking in bass response. These have the opposite problem. The bass is very powerful and tight, not boomy, but it is overwhelming with some music. The highs are not nearly as strong. Some classical music tends to sound muffled, as though one were listening to good speakers with pillows taped to the fronts. Pianos suffer especially, though string quartets sound great. If your tastes lean towards rock, you will love these. Bass guitar and drums come through really strong. Vocals are also clear and smooth. With rock, the diminished highs are not noticeable. These make an excellent replacement for the crappy headphones that come with most portable CD players.
One further advantage is they are very efficient, which means you don't have to turn the volume up very much to get loud sound. And even at low volume, the bass is strong.
An audiophile is not going to like these Cobys, but the strong bass and lack of distortion makes them interesting headphones nonetheless. The more I listen to them, the more I like them. If you listen mostly to rock, for the price you can't go wrong.
