Best for the printer server

The compaq servers are our company standard. There are over 100 servers in our company. All these servers seldom have problem. But the printer servers often have problem. This server is compaq 3000. We do not know why these problem occur. Maybe there are too many printers connect this server( about over 40 printers ) . Or the server perform is low which can not support the daily burden. But it affect our normal work. After reinstall it several times it always have the same problem. We decided to use new server to instead the current server. After analysing we decided to use the Compaq Dl380. There are several reasons.

1.It is small .
The Dl 380 is very small. It only occupy 3U. The printer server do not like other application server which need expand it HD. So the smaller the better. Though it is very small the perform is still good.

2.The high perform.
When we dicited to buy new server all hardware we need consider. This server support five kinds prossors the Pentium 667MHz 733MHz 800MHz 866MHz and the newest 933MHz. This server can contain two prossors at most. The printer server do not need more prossor. We use the two 800MHz processors. As a printer the most important hardware is memory. This server can include 128MB to 4GB. We use 512MB SDRAM DIMM. The HD is not important for a printer server. We use two Ultra2 hot plug 10000RPM HD. It can contain 4 HD if all HD are used. We use them with RAID 1. The NIC is also an important factor. Because there are many dates input and output. This server used the NC3163 Fast Ethernet NIC Embedded 10/100 WOL capability. We did not changed it.

There are many other configuration we did not change. After three months use we did not find any problem. We believed it. It is a good server.
