Author's Review
For seventy years Steck Vaughn has been synonymous with Adult Education. The leading company in supplemental preparation materials for adults has cornered the market on GED materials. Continuing its long relationship with the GED Testing Service, the company boasts distribution of the Official Practice Test. What better reason to use the GED preparation materials.
Before continuing I must admit to a long held relationship with Steck Vaughn. Although I no longer work for the company as an employee, for some 15 years I was affiliated with this wonderful company. I have actually sold many copies of this product in a great many states. It is the most sought after material for preparation for the GED Test.
The Complete GED Preparation is what we use to term the yellow pages because of its immense size. It covers all areas: Language Arts: Reading, Language Arts: Writing, The Essay, Math, Social Studies and Science. The three pound book was edited in 2002 by Ellen Northcutt and her tremendous team. The book is tutorial, diagnostic in that it contains a practice set of questions and preparatory in that it sets the stage for the taking of the test.
One of the reasons for the success of this material is how it engages the student in the learning process. Everything is spelled out with graphic examples. In math the student will see an enumerated process for every procedure. In Science and Social Studies, academic vocabulary is accentuated so students understand the language being used. Great care is taken to ascertain that all aspects covered by the test are covered by the materials. Approximately 65% of the test will be informational text passages where information will have to be extracted and applied in given situations. The book does a great job of helping students maneuver this process.
Students who complete the Steck Vaughn program of study have a high degree of success on the test. The Complete GED Preparation is all that it claims. It is very thorough covering all the intricacies that are to be tested on the actual GED. It is not a wimpy coverage of the diverse areas. Those students seriously wanting to do well on the GED, will use the Steck Vaughn preparation. Most GED centers in the nation use the Steck Vaughn materials. When you take the practice test, you will find having used the Complete GED Preparation was a good choice for getting you ready.
There are few things in life that are absolutes. One of those is the usage of The Complete GED Preparation. Having many years of experience with these materials including the training of hundreds of GED teachers, the materials prepared in this volume by Steck Vaughn are as good as it gets.
