Author's Review
Consumer Reports has save me from making some big mistakes when it comes to major and minor purchases! Im an impulsive consumer who has to have it yesterday. When I let impulsivity rule my head, I usually end up regretting my buying decision. When I was Bar Mitzvad long long ago, I had to have a reel to reel tape recorder. So, I badgered my parents to take me to my local E.J. Korvettes so I could plunk my money down and get my tape recorder. My parents took me, to the store and I bought the first machine I laid my eyes on. I gave up my money and got a lemon in return! I never heard of Consumer Reports!
Moral of this story is, that I now consult this non profit publication whenever Im even thinking of buying anything! Even the mundane day to day things such as soap and cat food are reviewed and scrutinized in Consumer Reports known to many as CU. I wrote a review on automatic dishwasher detergents. I got my information from reading C.Us recent in depth article about dishwasher detergents. Prior to Consumer Reports, Id just buy whatever I had a coupon for. In many cases, my selection was far from the best choice!
Looking for a new or used car? Try telling your impulsive emotions to chill out when test-driving your four wheeled beauty! Hard isnt it? But, if you read this magazines detailed reviews, you have a chance of coming out ahead when entering the automobile buying arena.
This publication is non-profit and accepts no advertising. Meaning, you get objective and scientific reviews. However, the flip side of this is, like everything else in life, they have to pay their bills and overhead. Therefore, being an informed consumer is far from cheap! Subscription costs are pricey. Want to get their ratings online? You gotta pay to play! Im the first to understand the necessity of charging a premium for your goods and services. But, the ironic tragedy is, Consumer Reports excellent services are priced out of reach for those who need them the most, the poor and the working class masses! Its no big deal if an affluent family buys a computer that is possessed with glitches. They just raise a little hell and, or buy this years new and improved model. However, if you are limited on funds as most of us are, you are virtually stuck with the ramifications of your lemon purchase!
Many are put off by Consumer Reports tendency toward leaning toward the left, in their editorials and skepticism of big business. I personally do not care about which way they lean on the political spectrum. I read Consumer Reports for the articles on the ratings of goods and services. Dont let their philosophy keep you from being educated and informed. Personally, Id rather be put off a little by this magazines editorial content and be turned on a lot about buying the best product for my hard earned and ever shrinking dollar!
