Product Review

Don't waste your quarters. Play Pinball Hall of Fame at home.

by   ldon526 ,   Feb 22, 2009

Pros:  Realistic pinball feel, detailed table instructions, no quarters to spend!

Cons:  Bad camera angles during multi-ball, mainly a game for pinball lovers

The Bottom Line:  Pinball lovers will really enjoy this at home version of pinball. Ten game tables make this a great value.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

Back when my husband and I were still dating and going to bars, we would play pinball.  He taught me all about it - about point scoring, how the game is more than just keeping the ball in play and all the little "tricks" to pinball. So I was thrilled when he came home with Pinball Hall of Fame for Wii for us to play together.

Pinball Hall of Fame has ten tables ranging in years from 1970 to 1990.  The tables go from classic pinball tables to the more modern tables with lots of ramps and sound effects.  It has:
Jive Time
Gorgar
Firepower
Black Knight
Space Shuttle
Pinbot
Taxi
Whirlwind
Funhouse
You have your choice of going into the arcade to play any of the tables, or you can participate in a Tournament or a Challenge. You can play from 1 to 4 players.  I prefer to just go into the arcade and choose a game.

This game requires the use of the remote and nunchuck.  The control stick on the nunchuck is the plunger to release the ball, and the Z and B buttons are your flippers. You can "flick" the remote or nunchuck to shake the table, but don't do it too hard or you will tilt.

Pinball Hall of Fame has on screen detailed game instructions.  You can go through a series of instructions highlighting different areas of the table. It will show you what combinations will get you high points, multi-ball, etc.  These instructions can be lengthy - approximately 60 pages depending on the table.

I really enjoy Pinball Hall of Fame. The tables give you the feel of playing at a real pinball table. Over the years we have played pinball games for the PC and other game systems, but this is by far the best video pinball game. The pinball sounds and music are great and really enhance the playing experience. I prefer Taxi, Whirlwind and Funhouse.  These tables have lots of ramps, which I like. My husband has played standing up, and it is funny to watch, since he will move his body as if he were standing in front of a real pinball table.  He is a better player than I am, and he says he can feel the difference between the tables.

One problem I have with this game is the camera angles during multi-ball. The angle switches to a more overhead view during multi-ball and it tends to throw me off a little.

If you are a pinball fan, Pinball Hall of Fame is a fun game to play. For $20, you get 10 tables to play. Any pinball fan is bound to find at least one or two games to enjoy and master.
