A great sling for 0-6 months!!

When I became pregnant, I knew that I wanted a sling. Babies need to be close to their mothers and slings allow you to have your hands free. I compared all the slings I could find on the internet and choose the Maya wrap. Here's why:

1) No padding: I am plus sized and get hot quite easily. My son was born in April, so I knew I had a whole summer coming up with him on me giving off heat.

2) It actually fit me: I am plus sized and some of the slings were too small for me. I got a large and still worried it might be too small. It wasn't. There was still lots of material left for even larger people.

3) Fabric choices: I liked that you had so many cool fabrics to choose from. Not just solid colors.

4) Easy to pack away: I just take it off and shove it in the diaper bag. It is always in the diaper bag so I have it no matter where I go.

5) It is machine washable, but you should wash it in cold separately because the dyes they use can run and bleed into other clothes.

6) It is cotton, so your baby can breath through it and air can flow through it to your skin a little.

I did have some trouble with the sling. While my son was little, the sling worked great!! I am still really glad to have it for my next child, but when my son got to be about 20 lbs, the weight was too much for my back. I started having shoulder and back pain whenever he was in it for 10 minutes or more. It got to the point where I just put him in his stroller instead. I have now found a front carrier that goes up to 40 lbs. that I use for him. It has more support. I really miss the ease & portability of the Maya sling, but it just stared to hurt too much.

My son did gain weight faster than normal babies, so if you have a smaller baby, I am sure the Maya sling will be useful longer than 6 months. It has a weight limit of 35 lbs., but my back didn't.

Also, some places will give you or sell you a video on all the different ways to use the sling (and there are quite a few). I didn't get one of these videos, but I seemed to figure out how to use it just fine. It did come with a informational pamphlet.
