Author's Review
Previously I wrote a review for the Evenflo Snugli saying it was the best baby carrier out there. I wrote the review when my first son was just over a year old and at that age we'd stopped using the Evenflo.
I had seen the MayaWrap available for sale during my first son's infancy, but decided not to invest in it, since I'd had horrible luck with the Nojo Baby Sling. Thinking all slings were equal, I figured I'd hate the Mayawrap, too.
The more I heard about it, though, the more intrigued I became. Shortly after the birth of my second son, I bought a Mayawrap from a lady who was selling hers on Ebay. I can't BELIEVE I waited til my second to get one of these!
It took a few tries to get the fit just right. But once I got it, I found it is the most comfortable sling I've ever used. When my son was an infant, it was a fantastic way to carry him around while I shopped. A few times I even was able to nurse him while walking about. And it just took a little bit of adjusting to be able to nurse him in the sling while I sat down, using the "tail" of the sling to cover us both.
Talk about versatile! Fully opened, I've used the sling as a picnic blanket, a blanket to keep the baby warm, a changing pad, a tissue, a napkin, a towel, and even a toy (my son liked the sound of the clanging rings). Then just toss it into the washing machine to clean it up! Since it has no padding, the baby doesn't get lost inside a deep pocket, and it also means it dries quickly after being washed!
And of course in "sling" mode, it's been great for carrying him around anywhere. I find it especially useful now when going to the mall, or amusement parks, or shopping - anywhere that he might want to be carried for a short period of time but long enough that it would wear out my arms if I carried him without the sling!(since he's walking now)
My youngest is now about 30lbs, so I admit that it's not entirely comfortable to carry him for long periods of time - but that's true no matter whether I use the sling or a backpack of some other sort!
I now recommend this sling to all new parents. Since the fabric is colorful (and not baby-ish) even Dad has been known to use it now and then! I only wish I'd gotten mine sooner!
