Limited topic coverage, overly expensive

Considering the relentless growth of the cruise industry in recent years, it is rather disappointing that the magazine industry has for the most part, failed to publish a periodical that matches this popular vacation venue.
Cruise Travel certainly attempts to fill the need for vital pre-trip information and research, but with just six issues per year and minimal content in each and at a relatively high subscription price, the publishers miss the mark.
Granted, some writers and editors would consider reviewing many aspects of cruising to be mundane and repetitive. How many different ways can you really describe a ship, after all? But there is so much opportunity within the topic beyond features like rock climbing walls and onboard surfing, which generally fail to attract the masses or annual cruisers.
Human interest stories abound, as well as the potential for passenger and crew profiles. An occasional historical look at the industry would certainly be a good read. And extensive coverage of the myriad of ports-of-call is lacking. Most reviews of this nature read like advertisements.
Of course, Cruise Travel does have some decent content, particularly the annual issue that lists contact information for each cruise line, as well as comparing ship size and capacity. This is an invaluable tool for those who are striving to sail on the next "biggest" ship to make a splash on the seven seas.
And I do recall reading a number of interesting articles, including a story on the shipping graveyard located in Indonesia, which was also featured on a Discovery Channel television show.
But all-in-all, Cruise Travel needs to bulk up on content and get a little glossier in order to keep current subscribers and add new ones.
