Very good looking, cooks well, but be cautious!

The Bottom Line: With a timer and better protection from burns I would have given this oven 4 or 5 stars.
I go along basically with skidderss' review of this oven.
It is modern, sleek, and well made by all accounts.
And heats evenly and for me, fast enough.
I am also a former Black & Decker owner, and I was surprised to find this one has no timer.
There are 3 controls for Temp, Function, and Toast Shade.
Plus Start and Stop timers for the Toast function.
A digital timer would be more fitting to the design and I realize most kitchens have one or two clock/timers around the regular oven, but still at over twice the price of the B&D I am not fond of omissions.
I don't find it too difficult to clean, but having the crumb tray exit the front, or even the side would have been more convenient. Instead, the oven has to be moved out to reach the crumb tray which is removed from the rear.
Overall, a nicely sized toaster oven that looks very good and works well besides.
Now the big negative or caution. I am not sure what Black & Decker model our other reviewer had, but mine had one great feature.
It had an outer hard plastic shell which could get uncomfortably warm on the top, but never hot enough to burn you. The same for the sides.
Until you get a few pages into the manual of the Cuisinart, you would not know the entire case can get very hot. Especially the stainless steel top. There is no double-wall construction to limit possible burns.
Also, be very careful not to put anything on top, and keep it well back so small children are not tempted to touch it.
To me this is a big drawback especially for families with children. Maybe I am being too paranoid, but when I see ovens at half the price with more safety features (not to mention the timer) I might have chosen more wisely.
I believe the T-Fal and some other highly rated ovens are also provide better protection.
In fact, I might even consider exchanging it for another one. My wife brought up the point that even an adult could touch it by mistake while working around the kitchen.
