Very happy with these phones

In our house, the phone is important. We have looked at and tried several brands and styles and had to take each back immediately because of signal quality and/or sound quality. We have had the Model 28111 series phone from GE for over a week now and have nothing but positive to say about it.

The quality of the signal between the handset and base if very good and the sound is strong and the sound quality is very strong. We have experienced no interference with or from any other RF device in the house - we have a wireless LAN and remote controls for TV, DVD Player and Sound system.

The phones were easy to set up and I was able to put numbers into the memory slots without having to read the instructions - which is saying something. . . It has several features that we really like. One of those, GE calls VIP Melody which is simply the ability to assign special rings to specific numbers. If we are occupied and tempted to let the call roll to voice-mail, it lets us know if it is a family member - and we have assigned different rings to different family members - or if it is the Grandparents or someone else to whom we might giver priority treatment.

The Caller ID is easy to read for those calls that don't have a VIP melody assigned.

All the handsets have speakerphone capability, not just the base station, like our old phones.

The handsets can be programmed with whatever name you find appropriate for them. The remote handsets can be used as a room monitor

The "system" doesn't have a recorder, but that is fine for us. We like the voice-mail provided by our local provider. . . it involves less hassle than any recorder we've ever had.

The phones are stylish and are a good size and weight, not too small or light, but not too heavy. They come with belt clips, but we chose not to clip them onto the handsets as we wouldn't use them. That's not a feature we needed.

Each handset has 50 memory positions which is far more than we needed, and they are very easy to program. Unfortunately, they don't share their memory lists, but they are so easy to program, that we just put the same list in both.

You can make a call from one handset to another or transfer a call to another handset easily. You can also conference-in the other handset easily if you wish. They are secure in that someone cannot pick up on another handset and listen-in to your conversation without your bringing them on-board.
