Product Review

I HATE my DACOR Double Ovens

by   usedtocook ,   Oct 16, 2005

Pros:  The oven is beautiful on the outside -- I have the stainless steel one.

Cons:  The heat is uneven so that NOTHING cooks right, outside is burned, inside is raw.

The Bottom Line:  DO NOT BUY DACOR -- this oven does not cook evenly and does not clean well. I have never hated any oven I've purchased until this one. I've quit cooking!

Author's Review

I bought this product because I heard Dacor was a high quality brand oven. I have nearly stopped cooking after this purchase. It cooks everything unevenly, and after complaining to Dacor, they sent to me to a "class". The class was a joke. Even that "chef" was unable to prepare foods the way Dacor claims and all the steaks were overdone. Sales staff told me I could cook 6 trays of cookies all at once and they are done evenly -- this is a lie. Cookies in back are burned, front ones are perfect, center ones are raw. Cakes are burned on the outside, raw in the center. The sales people tell you to lower the heat and cook the same time length; Dacor tells you to leave the heat the same and cook less time. Truth is, they don't know what to tell you. I tried everything they said, and no matter what, nothing cooked evenly. You cannot cook in traditional roasting pans because the heat waves cannot penetrate metal. You cannot roast a turkey (or any meat) in water (for gravy) because the heat waves cannot penetrate the water. They told me to use a can of chicken broth for gravy! The fan comes on whether you are using convection bake or regular bake. They told me the calibration was off and sent someone to "fix" it. This made no difference at all. You literally have to re-learn how to cook, make all new recipes changing the temperature and time, AND buy all new baking "pans". Still, nothing cooks the way it should. You have to constantly check if food is done or not -- forget sticking something in and setting time bake! There is no way you can leave something cooking in this oven and have it finish and turn off the oven before you return. I am constantly resetting the temp for something that needs to bake for even just an hour! The timer on the oven is so antiquated! If you are setting it to cook something for, say, 2 hours, you have to hold the button down while it goes through all the minutes up to 2 hours. The inside of this 4 year old oven looks older than the GE double ovens that were in this house 25 years. They do not clean up well, and the inside fan cover (which was stainless) is all stained and looks 20 years old. I am sick of complaining to the company -- they tried to shut me up by sending me extra cookie sheets, but they sent the wrong size for this oven. I am glad the store I purchased from is out of business (Home Expo) -- one less corporation lying about and selling this horrible product. DON'T BUY DACOR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I hope they read this review.
