KinderGarten Eddie
Pros:
Scenes between Eddie Murphy´s character and his son. A couple of good jokes.
Cons:
Been there, done that. Not all the jokes are funny, WAY to innocent...
The Bottom Line:
Eddie Murphy as loving father and childfriend... Sounds basic; It is. The kids are cute and Eddie´s allright. As an ordinary ´dvd´ comedy this one is pretty enjoyable.

I saw this flick last night. And to be totally honest with you guys, I didn´t expect a single thing from it. This mainly because of the fact that recent Eddie Murphy films have been quite disappointing (Showtime, Holyman, Pluto Nash,...). I can alreay tell you that ´Daddy Day Care´ is straight out formula work, but the film doesn´t suck all the way...
The story is plain an simple. Eddie Murphy is a loving father to a son. The man has the job, the family and he is indeed happy. One day he looses his J O B..oops! No problem for Eddie, he opens a kindergarten! together with friends Phil (Jef Garlin) and Marvin -Star Trek freak- (Steve Zahn) he takes care of a bunch of kids. Meanwhile the other day care centers get pssed off by the new ´rising star´ among day care centers. Mrs. Harridan (Angelica Huston) tries to close down the ´Daddy Day Care´...
So as I said, 100% formularic all the way. This film aims for kids aswell as adults. This is obviously not the kind of Eddie Murphy you saw in ´Raw´, ´Beverly Hills Cop´, or ´Coming to America´. The Eddie Murphy we see in ´DDC´ is the ´Dr. Doolittle´ kind of guy; Meaning that this is indeed a SWEET film...
For some of us this might already be a disaster.. but I had a descent time with this film. The films jokes arent perfect, not even that mad funny. The film does offer some laughs dough, especially Jeff Garlin and Steve Zahn have their moments. The kids starring in the movie are pretty sweet and funny aswell. The scenes between characters Charlie Hinton (Eddie Murphy) and his son Max are very cute. Seeing Eddie Murphy in the role of a caring father and childfriend is pretty weird, but he does an OK job. Still I´d rather like to see the ´old´ Eddie Murphy again.. I really think the man is fcking up his reputation by making films like ´The Haunted Mansíon´, ´Holy Man´, ´Showtime´ and ´Dr. Doolittle´. `Daddy Day Care´ isn´t that bad, but still its pretty basic..
The jokes fired at the audience are innocent and light. Director Steve Carr, who earlier made the ´pot comedy´ ´Next Friday´(READ REVIEW), knows that this time children are also part of the audience. That means that there are hardly any sexual related jokes or shocking stuff. By meaning that the jokes are ´light´ they didn´t hit me all the time. I laughed a couple of times (The kids kicking the guys in the nuts is great, and the broccoli and carrot scene is hilarious..), but most of the jokes are childish and even stupid. So as an adult you´ll smile a couple of times, but this is basicly for kids.
By the way this has been done before by another former Hollywood Hero Mr. Arnold! ´The fcking Terminator´. Bottom line is that Eddie Murphy´s ´kiddie´ comedy is allright as lazy night dvd entertainment. But I´m happy I didn´t see this on big screen, meaning that its not a great comedy.
An allright innocent and completely forgettable film... Eddie Murphy surely needs a great comeback. For now I´m looking forward just to hear his voice in ´Shrek 2´. ´Daddy Day Care´ was a descent passerby in Eddie´s carreer. I hope that he´ll be back with better stuff...!
