Buttershots Butterscotch Schnapps
As I sit down before you, I'm about to write a review on Dekuyper Buttershots. I have a full shot glass before me, for testing purposes only, of course. So, let's get down to some of the nitty gritty details about it.
Buttershots Butterscotch schnapps weighs in at 15% abv or 30 proof. It's made by Dekuyper, the company responsible for a long line of other similar products(I.E. Cinnamon schnapps, Peach Schnapps, Peppermint schnapps... the list goes on).
Pour & Appearance.
A slight bit of viscosity, as Buttershots appears, initially to be a sugary mess. Has a light cling to the side of my shot glass, which just kind of hangs in place.
The appearance itself, is almost like water. Except for the thicker consistency, it's basically dead on. The liqueur holds a crystal clear transparency that strangely deforms my computer screen as I look through it(side note.. so this is what the world would look like if I was drunk on this stuff?)
Smell
Werthers Original is what first comes to mind. A faint hint of alcohol, brushing every so quickly on my nose. Warm, sweet and very inviting. A promise of a great little drink, by the smell of it.
Taste
Wow... whoooo sweet, very sweet. Definitely butterscotch, with a hint of alcoholic burn, every so slightly detectable behind the mask of sugar and butterscotch. However, the alcoholic burn is there for a whisp of a second and enhances the over-all sweetness of the drink.
Second taste: Runs into the same results as the first taste. Very very good, yes, I think I could drink a whole bottle of this very very easily. I'd also like to note, that for the record, this would also make a very good mixer in things like hot-chocolate(I even think they recommend this on the bottle).
The Great Debate-What Compromises Sophistication?
So, some of the other reviews I've read about Buttershots, denounce it because of its sweetness. They'd have it that sweetness takes away from the sophistication of the drink. I'd beg to differ, as gourmet is a wide range of things and doesn't exclude sweetness.
Buttershots, though obviously very sweet, has a delicate taste that belongs right up there with the rest of the liqueurs. We all obviously have our individual tastes, and those should be recognized at the bar, as anywhere else.
A Recipe For You
I don't usually recommend recipes, because I largely drink the liqueurs either by themselves, or the usual status quo of Orange Juice or Soda. Don't get me wrong, I've had more then my share of mixed drinks....Anyway, a buttery nipple.. or slippery nipple..something like that.. depending on who you talk to..
3/4 butterscotch buttershots
1/4 bailey's Irish creme
Pour buttershots in cup first, then poor bailey's Irish creme, using the lip of the cup, so that the bailey's rolls slowly over the buttershots. This will create a layered drink that's very appealing to the eye. It's also very tasty, and the only way I can drink buttershots.
