Author's Review
Dell logic puzzles are fun to do and challenging to the mind. I like to sit down with these for a few quiet minutes before bedtime. Does Vernon or Matthew live in the yellow house? I must know, or I won't sleep well tonight. Logics provide a certain sense of mastery. I may not be a rocket scientist, but by jove I can do a logic puzzle!
I prefer the Penny Press logics, but these aren't bad. Once you figure out a certain set of tricks, they are easier - often much too easy for my taste. The best puzzles are the ones you have to examine closely from a million angles. Unfortunately the Dell puzzles rarely fit that bill. I also prefer table puzzles to those solved with a grid. Again, the Penny Press logics win out over the Dell on this score.
One thing I look for in good logic puzzle magazines is wide page margins and a good amount of whitespace between clues, for scribbling notes and drawing arrows to connect ideas. This magazine has neither, although there is often a generous amount of empty space at the bottom of the pages. The typeface is also difficult to read, even to my younger eyes.
Each magazine contains an adequate number of puzzles, generally about the amount I can solve before the next magazine is published. More serious puzzlers might run out of puzzles in that time.
