For the space-conscious parents and non-volatile baby

We bought this portable crib for our third baby girl at Babies "R" Us, after we smarted from our other children's cribs. This crib was fairly easy to put together; the instructions were pasted onto a side of the wood mattress panel. We didn't buy it for using in other people's home. It is a bit bulky for that---the size would be too big for our car trunk. A pack and play playyard would be better for that purpose.

The previous cribs we bought were full-sized cribs and were much more difficult to move, despite having wheels. This portable crib is very easy to move (although not as easy as a bassinet) and fits through doorways quite readily. The great thing is that it doesn't take up much space. So we can have more furniture in the baby's room ---we can even fit in a glider in the same room.

Changing the full-sized crib mattresses frequently (from the kids having accidents) had taken its toll on mother's back. The little mattress pad included in this crib is rather flimsy, but it's way easier to manipulate and change the fitted sheet. The included mattress should work for very light or young babies. But we are ordering a better mattress for our 5 month-old baby because she is getting heavier, at 17 pounds.

On the down side, the weight limit for the portable crib is 35 pounds, but we think that once the baby is able to stand up and climb, we better get a toddler bed. I cannot imagine very active babies who are able to stand up and jump around, being too safe in this crib.

The selections for portable crib bedding is extremely limited, compared to what you are offered when shopping for regular cribs. At Babies "R" Us, there was only one crib bedding choice for girls and one crib bedding choice for boys. I looked on-line and found that you can buy basic portable crib bedding pieces (bumpers, mattress sheets, comforters, skirts) in different colors. But again the selection is paltry.
