Dirt Devil Broom Vac
Date of Review: Oct 26, 2007
The Bottom Line: Small and easy to use, has a chargeable battery and works very well if you want to clean up a small mess quickly. Not good for everyday use.
As my husband and I were opening our wedding presents we got to the one my aunt gave us. As we opened it one of the things there was a red dirt devil broom vac. I was happy with my old fashioned broom and wanted to take it back. Of course my husband wanted to keep it. I didn't want to fight with him so we kept it. I don't know how much my aunt spent but I'm sure it wasn't worth it.
The Dirt Devil broom vac comes in a small box and you can put it together in a few minuets. It comes in three pieces that just twist together, two twist together to make the handle that then attach to the vacuum head. There are a variety of colors to choose from. This way you can get one that matches your house. It's about the size of a regular broom. On the top of the handle is a black piece with a hole in it so you can hang it up if you want. The handle is a lightweight metal.
The base is a plastic material of whatever color you choose. There is a button on top that if flush. You can turn it on and off with your foot so at least you don't have to bend over. On the other side on top is the light that tells you when it's charging. On the back of where the handle is where you plug it in to charge it. It comes with the adaptor to charge it. The container that catches the debris is clear so you can see when to empty it.
There is a small silver button on the side that releases it and it comes off on a hinge. If you take it off and look on top of it you will see that there is a filter on it. You have to lift this filter off to empty it. On the inside is a tube that takes all of the junk into the container. This tube will clog very easily, you have to check it all the time to make sure it's not clogged. On the bottom is a row of brushes on each side of it. The bottom is angled and one row of brushes is longer then the other. There is also a sponge behind each row of brushes to help pick things up.
When you look at all of these features and how it's put together you would think you were done with your old broom and dustpan. Well if you think that you are wrong. This is not the wonder broom that you would think it is. The bristles don't sweep things up very well. There isn't very much suction power so it barely picks anything up. And if you happen to get something that won't fit through the tiny hole and it gets clogged you have no suction at all. There is a flap of plastic that goes over the hole to make sure things don't get back out but it's so close to the filter on top that it hit's it and can't open to let things in. The Dirt Devil broom vac works well if you want to clean up a small mess really quick. It won't replace your old broom and dustpan though. So it's mostly just taking up room in your broom closet.
