Author's Review
My Mom was heavy into perfume. She was Shalimar, L'Heure Bleu and Joy. She would literally douse herself with one of these three scents. All three are very distinct and for me, overpowering. As much as I had difficulty with the intensity of these perfumes all hold the memory of my Mom for me now.
The beauty of perfumes besides lending a nice scent when you wear them, they create powerful memories. In early times they replaced bathing. Bath water was difficult to arrange. There was no indoor plumbing. Water had to be transported and the bath water was shared. That's where the saying "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water" came from. By the time the last family member had bathed the water was clouded with dirt and you could lose a child in it. Imagine!
I guess having grown up around the intensity of perfume I went in the other direction. I find most scents unbearable. I can only wear White Shoulders, sparingly or a little Lavender Oil. I prefer the soap and water clean smell on my husband rather than men's cologne.
Despite all this I had to at least check out Victoria's Secret Dream Angels Heavenly. It is not a high end perfume, just more of a simple store brand, counter top get it for your girlfriend on a whim kind of scent. The bottle is pearly and swirly. No Lalique for this perfume. It's simple in design and simple in the lettering as opposed to high end perfumes in collectible bottles. It simply says "dream angels - heavenly" in lower case on the bottle.
From the site:Chosen as America's #1 Fragrance by the Fragrance Foundation. Our soft, creamy, smooth blend of white peony and white musk. Domestic.
Fragrance type: vanilla oriental
Top notes: quince, cardamom, wild ivy, mandarin
Middle notes: water lily, white peony, freesia, iris,
violet, poppy
Low notes: white musk, sandalwood, orchid vanilla
The scent has both floral and musk key notes. Both are too strong for my liking but perfume reacts to your body chemicals so it's something you need to try on before buying. It will react one way on you and another way on someone else. It will appeal to different people or not. We each have a scent reaction that will differ from person to person. Our personal body scent will trigger a different note in different fragrances. Some of us are more alkaline some of us have more acidity in our skins.
I sprayed some on a sample card and checked it out for scent and strength. It did last on the card for quite a long time. I preferred the less powerful smell that I found the card carried hours later.
Perfume is a wonderful way to create a memory identity. Olfactory senses trigger memory sensations. Warm bread baking reminds us of home or sand and salt air brings back days at the beach. Perfume also works this way. It's another link to you and who you are. It connects you to others who are familiar with your scent. Babies know their mother's scent. Animals mark thier territory and each other with scent, it's a very primal link.
You can buy the entire line, lotion, mist and perfume and thus keep the scent going from body to clothing to hair etc. If you love it invest in the whole line.
Other Victoria's Secret applications available in this scent are :Heavenly Wash, Heavenly Angel Touch Lotion, Heavenly Mist, Heavenly Velvet Luxe Lotion, Heavenly Body Crème, Heavenly Bath Pearls, Roll-On Trio, and Heavenly Body Powder. Remember, perfume works best applied to pulse points on your body, wrists, neck, ankles. The warmth of your body triggers the aroma. If this perfume appeals to you let it be your signature so when that anyone smells it they think of you.
