DuWop claims that their Lip Venom was the first lip plumping product on the beauty scene. I dont know enough about the beauty scene to confirm or refute that claim, but I do know that the
Lip Venom Gloss was the first one that Id ever purchased. It never actually plumped my lips, but a perfect consistency and a perfect color, along with the pleasant tingling sensation quickly made it my favorite gloss.
Last time I was in Traverse City, I returned to the original scene of the crime and was intrigued by the
DuWop Silver Venom Flash as it was purported to act like my Lip Venom Gloss, but adding a shimmery, silver tint. I think there may have even been a reference to romantic moonlight on the stores posted description. Im a fool for shimmer and moonlight. Add the fact that I already had and loved a similar product, and I slapped down my $18 quicker than the on-commission saleslady could ask for it.
3.5 ml of Poison
My teeny tiny bottle of
Venom Flash came packaged in a larger, silver cardboard tube about the size of your average lipstick. The product itself is a clear tube with a silver top. The product that can be seen looks more blush pink than shimmery silver, so why was I surprised that it came out that way on my lips as well? No one will ever know.
Untwisting the top, the
Venom Flash is easily applied via the attached brush. Unfortunately, I think brushes often bring too much product out of the tube and the end result is a bit too goopy.
Prickly but not Plumpy
I first applied the
Venom Flash to my bare lips. Like the Lip Venom Gloss, the cinnamon, ginger and wintergreen combine to leave a pleasant, prickly feeling on my lips. This is supposed to increase the circulation, leaving your lips plumped. Of course, it doesnt work. Not even a little bit. But it feels nice. The Jojoba and avocado oils are great for softer lips.
On my bare lips, however, there was zero hint of silver. Zero. My lips felt nice, and they looked glossy wet. Not a bad thing, but not what I was hoping for. The next time I used my
Venom Flash, I applied it over my favorite Origins lip liner. It was pretty, shiny, and kept that prickly feeling. But less shimmery-silver than my cheapest Wet-N-Wild gloss.
Bottom Line
With so many other lip plumpers flooding the market now, the
DuWop Silver Venom Flash just isnt worth the money, especially since it doesnt really do anything that its advertised to do. I do, however, still love and stand by the purchase of my
Lip Venom Gloss.
