For me, SI and its boring bull just doesn't cut it anymore. Gone are the days of Jim Murray sports writing and Howard Cosell broadcast journalism. In are the lingo Stew Scott and Kenny Mayne, ESPN's hippest and coolest anchors.

The times are changing, as is the sports world. ESPN the magazine has entered the market that Sports Illustrated has monopolized for the past fifty years. ESPN the magazine can be had for a subsription rate of $13 per year, which averages out to fifty cents per bi-monthly issue. The only greater investment would have been if you had stock options from 1988 for Microsoft shares at a dime a piece.

What is the difference between a box score that is two weeks old and one week? They're both outdated?

Oops, actually ESPN really doesn't print box scores. They mainly profile athletes, giving the reader a look into the athletes story, their great accomplishments, their lifestyle, and what they have done to get where they are. It is very similar to a brief biography but in interesting fashion.

I subscribe because the articles are more in depth than the LA Times sports section and not a bore like SI. They also have full page/ full color pictures.

ESPN the magazine is a must for all sports fans. May the critics be damned. They haven't a clue.
