EPIPHONE LES PAUL SPECIAL II PLAYER PACK
Whether you are a beginner who is considering buying a guitar rig for yourself, or if you are thinking of buying a guitar for that young budding future rock star in your family, the Epiphone Les Paul Special II Player Pack is certainly a worthy item for your consideration. The Epiphone Les Paul Special II Player Pack lists for $360.00, but it can be had at most large musical instrument chain stores, as well as from a reputable Internet retailer for a discounted price of $199.00. Read on and see why I feel that Epiphone Les Paul Special II Player Pack is a real bargain at this price.
When it comes to purchasing an electric guitar rig for a beginner, there are many things that go into making a complete package. Epiphone has assembled all of the essential necessary components required for a beginning electric guitarist into one complete and relatively inexpensive package. Allow me to list some of these necessary components.
First and foremost, the Epiphone Les Paul Special II Player Pack contains an Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar. This is Epiphone’s entry level Les Paul model, and it is also their best selling model guitar. Do not confuse the term “best selling” with “best made,” as this is an entry level or beginners electric guitar, and Epiphone makes many models of electric guitar, some of which sell for significantly more money, and are made with higher end components. The Epiphone Les Paul Special II is an electric guitar with two humbucking pickups, more specifically a model 700T pickup in the bridge position, and a model 650R in the neck position. There is one master Volume control and one master Tone control, which is used to shape the sound coming from the guitar. There is also a 3-way pickup selector switch that can be used to select either the bridge pickup alone, the neck pickup alone, or both pickups in combination. The Epiphone Les Paul Special II Guitar also features a Tune-o-matic Bridge, a Stopbar Tailpiece, and six tuning pegs (with three tuning pegs being located on each side of the headstock of the guitar). The body of the guitar is made of Basswood (in some cases the body is made of laminated Alder/Maple). The neck is made of Mahogany, with a Rosewood Fretboard, and it has 22 frets, which is a relatively standard number of frets found on most electric guitars. The Epiphone Les Paul Special II is available in several colors, including Ebony, White, Vintage Sunburst, and Heritage Cherry Sunburst.
Also included in the Epiphone Les Paul Special II Player Pack are a number of other essential items required to complete a simple guitar rig, such as an amp, a guitar chord, three picks, a tuner, a guitar strap, a gig bag, and an instructional DVD. I shall now describe some of the details of these items.
The amp that is included in the Epiphone Les Paul Special II Player Pack is an Epiphone Studio 10 Amp. This is a 10-Watt amp with an 8-inch Electar Labs speaker. If you don’t think 10 Watts is very powerful, wait till your young rocker starts practicing, and you may find that you are asking them to turn down the volume. Fortunately, this is easily accomplished, as the Studio 10 Amp has a Volume control, a Gain control, and three EQ Tone controls, which together, shape the overall tone of the guitar coming out of the amp. The tone and volume can easily be adjusted to a low mellow setting, or to a wickedly raunchy loud rock sound. There is also a built in headphone jack, which will allow a beginning rocker to plug in a set of headphones, mute the speaker, and rock out to their hearts content, thereby depriving the rest of the family or neighbors in the adjoining apartment from being entertained late at night.
Also included in the Epiphone Les Paul Special II Player Pack is a gigbag, which can be used to protect the Epiphone Les Paul Special II Guitar from damage when going from one place to another, such as from basement to garage, and eventually from one concert hall to another. Hey, you’ve got to start somewhere. Also included is a pitch pipe to assist in tuning, three guitar picks, a guitar strap, and a guitar cable, which is of course used to connect the guitar to the amp. An instructional DVD with basic tips and lessons rounds out the package.
The bottom line for me is this. The Epiphone Les Paul Special II Player Pack is a remarkable bargain at $199.00. It has everything that a beginning guitarist needs to begin the process of learning how to make music. I wish that something like this had been around when I was a beginner.
