Author's Review
Where do I start with this dog?
In the first place this is a very noisy printer. Not a good kind of noise, but the kind of cheesy noise that portends a short life, and the CX8400 didn't disappoint. Two weeks out of the box, two weeks of watching it violently feeding the paper, and bam (!) the paper jams. Surprise! I followed the instructions, and removed the stuck paper, but the error message didnt go away. Brought this bow wow back to the store, two weeks old - with almost empty ink cartridges that had seen little use - and got another. This replacement's screen was dead right out of the box. I called Epson at my expense no toll free number - and had my time wasted by a bone-headed woman who asked me over and over what the error message was, when I had already explained that the problem was the dead screen, so I couldn't see any error messages. Since this was a brand new unit she suggested I bring the unit back to the store, or ship it to them for replacement (at my expense..... uh huh. Well, two times was the charm for me, so I brought the thing back to the store and bought a Canon. Here are a few other observations on this piece of junk:
The scanner bed is on a sloping angle, so a smaller document slips down before you can place the cover over it. So annoying; not a well thought out design.
The cheesy paper tray gets stuck when you try to fold it up.
The scanner is *painfully* slow.
The few color documents I printed on plain paper made the paper wiggly, although the ink was dry to the touch.
The print quality is nothing to write home about.
The black surface of the unit shows fingerprints, and is almost impossible to keep clean.
The life of the ink cartridges is ridiculously short.
Office Max and other retailers cant refill Epson ink cartridges. Do yourself a favor and buy another brand.
