attractive for many reasons but lacking

The Bottom Line: buy something else - and usually, you do not get much in the sub-$200 price range.
I bought the SC785 because it was smallish, had the fan by pass, and because it had the folding handle. The suction straight down is good - but edge pickup (what edge pickup?) is really poor. It is an exercise in "minimalist" manufacturing - they strove to use as little materials as possible. Mine has already burned out a fan motor, even though the worst that happened was that it sucked a paper towel for about 30 seconds. BECAUSE it has the SO-CALLED "self adjusting height", what that really means, is 'NO ADJUsTMENT POSSIBLE' and you can push that M&M candy all around the room without sucking it up because the front end is flush to the floor. It is light and maneuverable, and probably pretty good for light duty in your office - but it also has a very small bag, so they need replacing often. You will (in the end) prefer a vacuum cleaner that has manual height adjustment. I think the MC-V5706 Panasonic is every bit as good and a lot cheaper. I wish I had spent my monewy there, now - but I wanted to "buy American" and still do. I am currently investigating the C1414-900 Hoover as a replacement.
