Evenflo Home Decor Stair Gate

We purchased three of this gate when we moved into our home two years ago. The gates match our hardwood floor, and stair rails perfectly, and look very nice. Everyone who comes in complements the appearance. Although our family has had no problem opening the gate -- even my four year old -- our guests usually cannot figure it out. You do have to push in on the lever and pull up on the lever at the same time, so it is highly unlikely that a one or two year old would figure it out. My daughter figured it out a few months before her third birthday. The gate installs fairly easily, we did need to sets of hands. We installed the gates at the top of our stairs, with wall on one side, and wooden stair post on the other. The gate comes with a wood piece for mounting to an uneven stair post so that you have a flat surface for mounting. When selling the house, you will need to putty wholes in your stair post; but this gate will work for you! The only problem we have had with this gate is that the plastic hinge parts can break when an angry child slams the gate. This has happened to us twice in two years. The replacement parts were easy to order and cheap. I love the look of this gate, and the way it works, so I still think it is worth the money. Speaking of money, this gate is not cheap; and you get what you pay for. I have many cheap plastic gates during the span of four babies. They break and are not repairable. They do not install easily or permanently. They make your home look like cheap plastic. If you are looking for a gate that matches your high end wood floor and wood trim, this gate is perfect.
