Contact Usage History
I've been wearing contacts for, ummm, a long time so I've been around the block when it comes to contacts. I've progressed through different types of contacts as they have improved over the years - Started with the old-fashioned one year soft contacts that you take out and enzyme, interchanged with gas permeable lenses to correct a slight astigmatism (which it did), then moved on to two-week disposables when they became affordable and finally Focus Night & Day "Up to 30 Nights Continuous Wear" disposable contacts.
Overview
To get right to the point, these contacts are the most comfortable I've had yet. Let me take a few steps back and provide some detail...
Cost Basis
I previously had Acuvue 2 contacts, which I was very happy with. At $13.95ish per box at warehouse stores, who can complain, right? Me, I guess. My vision insurance only paid for two boxes for each eye. So, two boxes containing six lenses at two weeks... well, that's 24 weeks of usage. Then you can run to (the big box) store and pick up some more. BUT, my insurance pays for one box for each eye of the Focus Night and Days. Technically, that buys me a few more weeks. At $60ish per box for refills, I had to do a little research.
Length of Wear
Upon discussing with my eye-care professional, I found that if I take these out every night, just like I did my Acuvues, I could actually wear them 60 days, thus getting a full year of contacts covered by my insurance. This is was the main selling point of getting these contacts. (I need to caution you though, wear them day and night and you can't get that many days out of them without compromising the health of your eyes!!) I have worn them at night, on occasion, so I haven't gotten 60 days out of each pair. They just started to feel grainy so I felt the need for a new pair. If I made the effort to enzyme them as another reviewer recommended, I could probably continue to use them with more comfort.
Sleeping in them:
Naps - Can take a nap and wake up without feeling like your contacts have been super glued to your eyes.
Overnight - No fumbling for your glasses! Unfortunately, it took a little bit (30 seconds at most, I guess) for my eyes to readjust/rewet after waking. The problem I had with this is that I had a newborn so I was waking up frequently in the middle of the night. I realized that my eyes rewet slower when the baby was crying at full wail! (hehe) In other words, I wanted to be able to get to the baby faster than my contacts wanted to rewet. It was faster/easier to just throw on my glasses (until the baby was sleeping through the night).
Safety
Adhere to your doctor's recommendations. My doctor told me that he had already found infections in eyes of patients who pushed the 30 day/night limit. He only approved 60 days if I treated them as daily wear.
Give your eyes a break. As with any contacts, you need to give your eyes a break every so often to air out.
Benefits
Very comfortable to wear!
These are great for the traveler who forgets to pack your glasses, these are great.
Excellent for people with extreme correction who want to be able to read the time on the alarm clock without squinting!
Perfect for a quick nap with no dry-eye consequences.
Priced comparably to two week disposables but get the "night" advantage as a bonus.
Conclusion
These contacts are comfortable, priced fair and are great for all-night wear. I love them!
