Good Basic Transportation
Pros:
It has a nice large gas tank.
Cons:
It has bland styling.
The Bottom Line:
This has been a reliable vehicle for me, which is more than I can say about prior experiences with Fords.

Author's Review
After owning the 2006 Ford Freestyle for about six months I was surprised to discover that it is considered a crossover vehicle. I had assumed that it was a mini-van, because it looks like a mini-van to me.
That being said, it has been a decent, reliable form of transportation so far, for the first 10,000 miles The biggest problem that I have had is the fact that the rubber cover on the brake pedal fell off, but it is still usable. I will have it reattached the next time that I bring it in for service, but the pedal is still usable. The mileage has been decent at about 20 MPG, and it offers a lot of room either for 3 rows of passengers or with the third row down, offering more storage.
The biggest drawback for me is the fact that its styling is uninspired. It looks like a government vehicle, rather than something that would wow at a car show or in the carpool lane. Its exterior is boxy, with nothing innovative in eye appeal. The interior is similarly bland, and there is a huge gap between the two front seats. To me it would make more sense to put a storage bin there, rather than the large gap.
My favorite feature is the large capacity gas tank. I like the fact that I can drive many miles without a refill. I'm not a diapered astronaut, but I still like driving long distances without stopping on long trips.
This is a reliable vehicle, which lacks any innovative styling that would push it up to a four star recommendation.
