I recently purchased this freezer from a great uncle. He and his wife had bought it about 6 months back, filled it and shortly thereafter she passed away. My grandmother knew I was in the market for one and called to say that he would sell it to me for 1/2 of what he paid for it since he no longer had a use for it. She took the next few months to slowly cook all that was in it, cleaned it out and had it ready for us. It took us another few months to make room in the garage, but boy am I glad we did!
What a gem this little freezer is (I use the term "little" lightly since it is 2/3 to 1/2 the size of our big fridge inside)! My husband and I were not married yet when I bought my house. In my effort to save money I went with a smallish side-by-side fridge and have regretted it ever since. It is great for 1 person, but add a 2nd and then an 80 pound dog who is home-cooked and forget it. The freezer was either filled with food for us or food for the dog but not both. Our grocery budget was through the roof since I couldn't stock up when stuff was on sale for fear that I couldn't fit whatever I was buying in the freezer. Not any more!
I am finally able to stock up on meats and other freezable items. In addition to saving money by taking advantage of sales on meats, I am also able to freeze things you might not think of like oatmeal, the chicken stock made each time I boil chicken for the dog, large containers/bags (costco sized) of trail mix, coffee, bread, cream cheese, butter, etc. The list could go on forever. Overall this freezer has been great in helping to reduce my monthly grocery budget. It is the perfect size for us and will accommodate what we hope will someday be a growing family.
It takes up little floor space since it is an upright. The shelves are well thought out and all areas are easy to reach. It is not too deep that you can't get to stuff in the back and the shelves in the door are deep enough that I think they would accommodate a gallon of milk, which is nice. It is quiet to run and so far I have not noticed an increase in our electricity bill, but we turned the heater on the same month we got the freezer and now have added Christmas lights so a better judge of that will be in the Spring.
Great investment! Would purchase again.
