Author's Review
I had a standard Vtech phone for years and years. When it gave up the ghost, I bought an AT&T phone with plenty of confusing bells and whistles. That one lasted a little over a year and when it died, I bought this GE 2.4 GHz Cordless Phone. I picked this one because it's just a phone. It has enough features to make it convenient to use but not so many that it overwhelms.
First off, this phone is cordless and constructed of white plastic. You can sit the base of the phone on a flat surface or mount it to a wall. If you choose to mount it on a wall, you will need a wall plate, which isn't included. This phone requires a battery (included), plugs into a standard modular phone jack, and uses a AC power converter that plugs into a wall outlet (the AC converter is included).
Features:
2.4 GHz
Call Waiting/Caller ID - The call waiting feature issues the standard double beep when you have an incoming call. When you receive a call, simply pushing the flash button will connect you to the new call without hanging up on the first call. This phone has a 3 line backlit LCD display. If you have caller ID service, you will see the time, date, phone number, and name of the person that is calling. The caller ID memory holds 40 names/numbers.
Handset Volume Control - Works great, just push the volume button until the sound is comfortable for you. Another feature of this phone is that it is hearing aid compatible. The phone meets with FCC standards.
Dialing - You can use several different methods of dialing. Press the talk button and then dial or dial and then press the talk button. It has a one touch redial feature. You can also store up to 10 names and numbers for quick dialing.
A few other notable features - The phone will alert you every 7 seconds with a single beeping sound every time the battery gets low and needs to be recharged on the base. It has a channel button so you can manually change the channel it is on if you are getting static or interference. You can choose either tone of pulse and you can also temporarily enable tone dialing if you have pulse rotary service. There is a page button on the base. If you can't find the phone, just press the page button and it will cause the phone to beep, so you can find it more easily.
I've had this phone for over a year now and it still works great. The sound is clear and it rarely picks up static. In all of this time, the battery has only went dead once and that was after the phone had been off the base for around 15 hours. Overall, it's been a good phone. I wanted a simple to use phone with a few basic features and this one fits the bill.
I'm glad that I bought it.
This phone comes with a limited one year warranty that covers defects in materials or workmanship.
I paid around $20 for mine, at Big Lots but it looks like you can also get one through Amazon.com for right around the same price.
