Product Review

Similar 2 Year Mark Problems

by   eeuofa ,   Aug 28, 2007

Pros:  This microwave looks very nice and matches other GE appliances.

Cons:  Doesn't work past 2 years!

The Bottom Line:  Would only recommend if you make sure GE has fixed the problem in the newer models. Mine was built in 2005.

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

It looks like I have one of these microwaves with the 2 year mark failures! This microwave looks great and worked great too until it all of a sudden started shutting off after 3 seconds. From what I have read online I am not the only one with this problem. I would assume that GE had a bad batch of circuit boards that found their way through quality control and ended up on the market. Being an electrical engineer I can say that once you have a bad circuit board forget it. It may be cheaper to buy a new microwave. Well, as long as it is not GE! Of course, now I have to jump through all of the Maintenance and help desk hoops to try and get anything I can out of this beautiful piece of junk. It costs at least $70.00 to have a GE service call to even look at the problem. Since the warranty only covered the first year I will have to pay for the service fee and for the new circuit board which, I am sure they have found the part that is causing these failures. GE just does not want to have to pay for the fix so they will just wait until people call and then charge them to fix it. Driving most of us to other brands. Too many artists worked on this microwave and not enough engineers.
