First off, the rack system is not effective. When I put plates in the bottom rack, and push the rack in, all the plates tumble into a big pile in the middle.
Secondly, the "Smart Dispense" that claims "Holds an entire bottle of liquid automatic dishwasher detergent, dispensing the right amount based on water hardness and soil levels to get dishes incredibly clean" DOES NOT WORK.
For some reason I couldn't figure out why my dishes weren't getting clean. I tried various rinse aids, practically washed my dishes before putting them into the dishwasher, tried various detergents - nothing worked. I still had dirty dishes.
The "trick" to getting this dishwasher to get your dishes clean is to use POWDERED detergent; therefore negating the "SmartDispense". I would highly recommend against paying extra for this feature. I am back to using Cascade Advanced "pacs", putting one in every time I start a load.
(By the way, we had GE Service Reps out twice to try to tell us why our dishes weren't getting clean. They said "it's working perfectly". Kind of hard to believe when I was handwashing dishes that just came out of the dishwasher).
Lastly, and most importantly, today - my dishwasher had a meltdown. Seriously, a meltdown. While cleaning the exterior of the dishwasher (that was OFF!), it was noticeably VERY hot on the exterior. The granite above the dishwasher was VERY hot. Upon opening the door - a rush of fumes and heat impacted - and now the lower spray arm is melted. Completely melted onto the heating element.
Now I get to wait until the "GE Rep" comes to "inspect". That is supposed to happen "in about a week".
Couldn't happen at a worse time. I am hosting my father's 70th birthday party this weekend.
Please, do NOT buy this dishwasher. It's the worst ever."
