Author's Review
After a bad experience of dealing with another brand of GPS (read my review of the Magellan Crossover GPS) I purchased this Garmin GPSMAP 378. However, BEFORE buying it, I called the technical support line and spoke with the people. I was impressed. I was even more impressed when my unit arrived. It came with a great "sandbag-type" mount for the car, a gimbal mount for my boat, a window mount, a wiring harness for by boat, an ac adapter to charge at home and a 12 volt cigarette lighter adaptor with speaker. It comes with an excellent manual. I strongly advise reading it from cover to cover. There are many, many tips and things to learn that may not be apparent with the "hunt and peck" methods of learning the unit. The displays are stunning. The accuracy is incredible. Inside my home with aluminum siding (blocks some signals)this unit was operating in DGPS (3D) with WAAS and was showing an accuracy of 7 ft. Pretty impressive. This is a FINE unit. I WILL be purchasing the sonar unit for the boat as well as the XM radio antenna.
If you are looking for a fine gps to handle road navagition, off road or marine, this is the one you want.
To upgrade the software and/or voices, etc, Garmin provides a Web Updater. You connect your GPS to a usb connection on your computer, run the program, it finds your unit and automatically selects the correct updates and enhancements. Awesome experience. Great work, Garmin!
