Garmin Nuvi 750, same as 760 minus bluetooth. Great GPS!

The only difference that I could see between the Garmin Nuvi 760 and the 750 is that the 750 lacks bluetooth capabilities. At the time I bought, a week ago, the difference was about $100.

I am a SENIOR and my husband had surgery and will be laid up for an extended time. I find myself in a position where I am now the driver instead of him. I swear, he was BORN with a little GPS in his head. I couldn't find my way out of a paper bag, on my third try! Good thing there's such a device as a GPS!

I originally bought a TomTom Go720 from a retail store and returned it because it was too hard to use! My son tried to teach me, but I couldn't catch on. Frustrating because I am a techno-junkie and technology isn't a foreign language to me!

I bought the Garmin Nuvi 750 because of it's advertised ease of use and I don't need the bluetooth feature. It IS VERY easy and intuitive to use. I like the displays, better layout so that it's easier to read with just a glance. (Keeping my eyes on the road!) It tells you the road names, where to turn, which lane to be in, how long you will be on that road before you have to turn, what road you'll be turning on. It tells you all this when you change roads, when you're .3 miles away, and right at the intersection, so there's no question. If you pass it up, it recalculates. Our freeway is under major reconstruction, and the GPS keeps wanting me to get on at the closed ramps, but this much I know, so it recalculates. I think the software update I just downloaded is supposed to fix that but I haven't tried it.

This unit has a great feature in that you can enter a number of addresses or Points of Interests (POI), for running errands or hitting garage sales. It will then optimize a route for you! Very cool!

I wish there was a way to turn off the display to save battery power and just use the voice. If there is, I haven't figured it out yet. The voice alone would be enough to keep me on track. Like I said, one of the nicest things is that it avoids surprises, and helps you anticipate your moves and the lane you need to be in.

People complain about the FM transmitter, so I tried it. It was OK, but just OK. When you pick "FM transmitter" under "tools/settings/volume/FM transmitter", the Nuvi 750 displays a channel less than 90.0. You set your radio to the same number in your vehicle, which would be a non-used, low static station in your area and then the GPS unit connects and the sound comes out of the speakers instead of the GPS. Problem is, when you drive, sometimes the station will pick up something and THAT overrides the GPS speech! I think the speaker on the GPS works just fine and the FM transmitter is not necessary.

TomTom Go720 comes with a fat book of a manual. Garmin Nuvi 750 comes with a small 8 page leaflet. You'll have to download a complete manual if you want one. And I found it to be very helpful, so you'll want to do this.

Placed order without any problems at TigerGPS. Their prices were about $50 higher than 5 or 6 alternate online stores, but when I read reviews on all THOSE stores, the customers had terrible experiences. I decided to pay more to make sure I was dealing with a reputable merchant. I received my order in under a week with their free shipping option. I am thrilled with my GPS (Garmin Nuvi 750) and have no problems.

The only thing I noticed is that some stores say that the optional AC charger comes with the product in the original box. I thought this one did too, but I checked the TigerGps product page and it is not listed as an included accessory. It does come with a car charger, so I'm not sure how much I'd use the optional AC charger if I had one.

Overall experience excellent. I have bought from TigerDirect in the past and assume ths is a division of that company. Highly recommended GPS unit but I recommend you thoroughly check out the feedback from online merchants if you're going to shell out $450!

Make sure you have somewhere hidden to stash it AND the mount because it's likely to get stolen. However, it's small enough to carry along in your purse and if you switch to pedestrian mode, it will help navigate YOU back to where you parked your car!
