Pros:  Girls will love it, it deals with real issues

Cons:  Strictly for one age group, can grow out of it quickly

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

Know an 11 year old girl? Have a daughter in the 5th or 6th grade? Girls Life is a perfect gift. I'll admit it...I've read it once or twice, even though I'm probably more of a Seventeen reader. For pre-teens it's hard to find a good magazine that hits their age group, Girls Life hit's just that group. It seems now the only magazines that are available for this not really kids and not really teen age group are TeenBeat, TigerBeat,..etc. Girl's Life is much more sophisticated than these, but attracts the same group. It has interesting articles, and is a good magazine for girls who you think Seventeen or even Teen might be a bit old for.

I've stopped regularly reading Girl's Life just because I got older and it got a little too Girl Scouty for me. (I never was the girl scout type). But I remember loving all the different hairstyle tips, and especially the Pen Pal section. Girl's Life offers different sections that other teen mags lack. Like the pen pal section, for example.

However, Girl's Life deals with issues that relate mostly to 11-year old girls' lives. So, your 14-year old daughter, niece, or cousin..etc, would probably find Girl's Life a bit too juvanial for them. I know that's around when I started to get a bit big-headed and proclaimed that I wanted to switch my yearly subscription to Seventeen. I still bought Girl's Life off the stands once in a while. That's the only con to Girl's Life it deals with a very small age group, so pre-teens quickly grow out of it, and like to read magazines that are more appropriate for their age. Also, the only not so easy thing about Girl's Life is that it can get a little pricey.

In Girl's Life you won't need to worry about any negative messages being sent to your daughter, or any materialist articles. This is a real mag for real girls. If your daughter doesn't already have a subscription, look into this one.
