Good Girl Done Good
Date of Review: Jul 30, 2009
The Bottom Line: You might like the club tracks or you might like the ballads either way it's a great album.
I'll admit i wasn't a fan of the Barbados native when she first came but when her hit "Unfaithful" came out i liked her and "Umbrella" came i stayed on her and never looked back. With the album "Good Girl Gone Bad" it shows Rihanna at her best and a musical growth about her. By adding new elements like pop rock, dance-pop, and smooth R&B in the mix people should look at Rihanna as the next big thing. With her track "Breakin Dishes" Rihanna is venting herself and of her boyfriend that it's going to be trouble when you get home. Another track and the second single "Hate that i Love You" it was kind of "Unfaithful" part 2 but in a good way with Ne-yo's penmanship on the song and vocals it showed Rihanna can keep up with the urban audience as well. With her standout track "Shut Up & Drive" a pop-rock/electro kind of feel Rihanna is using car analogy for sex saying "I need a fine tune super-sonic speed machine with a sun roof top & a gangsta lean" Ri-Ri means business. While the dancier tracks like "Sell Me Candy" & "Please Don't Stop The Music" was great what kind of surprised me was her ballads like "Good Girl Gone Bad" & "Rehab" showing that there's heartbreak in her voice and in the song. I only wish i could see better lyrics on some songs like "Breakin Dishes" & "Question Existing" both produced & written by Trick Stewart & The-Dream, still the album have launch this island girl to the big times and we expect her next album to surpass this one.
