Author's Review
Released very appropriately in time for Valentines Day, 2002, nothing says I Love You like Frank Sinatra. This is an outstanding collection, 22 hits in all, for a decent price and should be the mainstay in any lovers life. It would even be acceptable playing in the background at a party or family gathering where people mingle about and share good times with each other.
Frank Sinatra is one of those timeless crooners that span decades. A man with beautiful blue eyes that drew people to him and a voice that captures your soul, Sinatra will make you fall in love all over again or fall in love for the first time. A man that expressed his emotions through music. Not that he didnt have a violent side as well, or anger, but when he started singing you forgot all of that and more.
Most of the songs included are ballads, a couple have a more jazzy beat to them, and one duet with Celine Dion. I almost clenched up typing her name. She didnt get all screechy and nasal in it but stayed true to Frank type music. Its unfortunate that they included this one intrusive blunder and even more unfortunate that Dion has dishonored one of Franks signature songs, All The Way. Had he been around when they dubbed that caterwauling voice in with his I am sure he would have kicked her collective butt right back over the border.
A nice booklet is enclosed with some great old pictures of Sinatra. He always looked so rakish with that hat tipped over one eye. It also includes quotations from Sinatra about his life and his love of delivery of song, as well as notes from Sammy Cahn, Gay Talese and Barbra Streisand.
Instrumentally this leans toward big band sound, which is appropriate for the music being presented, with a lot of horns and stings. You can almost see Old Blue Eyes snapping his fingers and swaying to the sounds. As much as he enjoyed making movies, nothing can compare to Frank Sinatra when he takes the mike and starts singing.
These songs are definitely from his earlier years, when times and love were more mellow. Light a fire kids, break out the bubbly and curl up with a loved one cause Frankies back in town.
