Sony DCR-DVD203 Report

Have owned the Sony DCR-DVD203 for about 3 months. First camcorder I've owned and I am really pleased with it. Picture quality is good in good light, dropping to grainy at lower light levels. The controls are easy to use via the touchscreen. There are a fair amount of manual controls to fiddle with as you gain experience. The build quality is up to Sony's usual high standards.
The included software is close to useless, the editing software keeps crashing on my PC. Luckily you don't need it. I finalise the discs in the camera, then open the files directly from the DVD drive in my PC in Womble Mpeg Video Wizard for editing. Works great and if you only do cutting , joining and adding soundtracks there is no re-encoding so saving the edited movie is very fast.I use -RW 8cm DVDs, and format and re-use them after saving to PC. The movies are burned to full size DVD. Another good feature is the AV in. Using this you can now transfer your VHS tapes to DVD, although I haven't yet tried this.
