Author's Review
i got bad eyes,
thanks to crt s.
last year, as my eyes were melting went to check out
the batch of 17 and 19 inch LCD screens to attach to
my xp machine.
most were cheap and big brand names, BUT.
only a few were sharp enough or colors good enough.
ok , but once the TEXT is SHARP, it is TINY .
i mean hey,
i am older than 45 and i can NOT read TINY size 6 fonts
like you young kids ok.
there are software and within xp, one can right click
and go into PROPERTIES, advanced,etc...
and you can try to increase some fonts, but
but but
that makes the sharp text BLURRY and they are not
sharp no more; although bigger in size...
so, one had to pick either tack sharp font size 6...
over a 19 inch lcd screen,
or... BLURRY font size 14 on same screen..
so i stuck to my philips crt , waiting for technology
to catch up to SOME common sense.
as usual eh ?
finally early 2008....
HP w 2207 came about for less than usd 300
and it is
cheaper by the week guys.
its WIDE 22 inch.
its got 1680 in X direction, left to right...
and got 1050 in Y direction, Height.
colors are good,,, and believe me
MOST of you should reduce Brightness and contrast
to much less than 35... to protect your eyes...
now my eyes say THANKS dude
we dont hurt anymore on your 12 hr days.
BUT again..what about the Tiny text sharpness
vs BIG text some reduced sharpness ?
in native rez of 1680 x1050 of course, its sharp
but i can t see that tiny.
here , i say google up CLEAR TYPE TUNING
this software is usually free...
download it, USE it.
ALL LCD screens showing text need this tiny
free program. it will reduce your headaches.
as well as play with your Properties in xp,etc.
of course...
you will come up to a happy
sharp enough medium.
tried this same trick on samsung, philips, etc.
but to no avail - they suck on sharpness big time.
as the fonts go bigger than font size 14, no more
sharpness, which also gives you headaches...
i now keep the HP W2207 at around 1280 x 780 or so...
big enuff and sharp enough
a happy compromise, finally after so many years...
and
that NO OTHER lcd screen for less than usd 400 can
seem to do ?? still ?
wierd eh.
this thing PIVOTS, to PORTRAIT MODE guys.
that means, you Should be able to go
1050 x 1680 ....
but alas, the HP software only bungles up.
good games like X PLANE are GREAT for this !
now you can see the cockpit and the outside
without scrollilng up and down during
game play..
best thing you can do is this....
most probably u might
need to buy a new vga card.
get it
they are cheap now and good.
TAKE your computer box to the HP shop,
and hook them up.
CHECK to see if you need a new vga card?
most new vga cards
cost less than usd 60 anyway
get ASUSTEK... make sure its got 256mb vram.
get it.
not only fonts are clearer, sharper,
colors better, but overall redraws are
noticeably improved too.
ASUSTEK
it has drivers and software that allow
for successful 90 degrees CCW flip
and now
suddenly your monitor, can go
landscape or portrait
with only few clicks of mouse
and ummmppphhh you gotta carefully move this thing too.
remember, the HP software for
change to portrait mode is not too functional...
hence my push for you to get an ASUSTek or
other viable new svga card.
ok dont be no jerk and DONT TOUCH the screen,
just like crt.. no need to touch , this will damage
bit by slow bit.
next year after spring of 2009, as people get older
i predict 30 inch screens will sell more with
aging population, eheh.
hopefully the 30 inch screen prices will drop
below usd 600 by then ..
if you dont get WHY you must try portrait mode,
either imagine, ask around, google it,
or look at my x-plane review on epinions.com
not onions.com
ok ?
be good and be happy
but more than all that
be
and give
peace.
