Author's Review
I bought a 2004 CRV brand new and began a cross country trip few months later. In Nevada the air conditioner died, when we got to New Jersey
I took it to the dealer and he said the compressor needed to be replaced. This car had 6000 miles on it and i had just spent 3 days driving in summer heat. they told me I HAD TO PAY $650 to replace the compressor! Excuse me? I think NOT! They told me it was damaged by a pebble causing a small hole in it.
This from basic interstate freeway driving? sounds like a bad grill design to me! Not being brain dead, I began to repeat my mantra "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" and being a New Yawker i began to squawk LOUDLY in the service dept.
Needless to say, if i were a meek person, i would of forked over $650 and cried a sad song. but Honda came through and picked up the repair, with me bringing the service guys a few dozen donuts in thanks.
Now at 60,000 miles the Emission light comes on. i do some internet research and find this happens frequently, ALWAYS AFTER WARRANTY IS OVER, and
Honda continues to try and rip off their customers with repairs of $85-$1500 for tightening the GAS CAP to complete value jobs. more internet research and i ended up disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes (IF YOU HAVE A HONDA RADIO BE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO RESET THE CODE BEFORE OR YOUR RADIO WON'T WORK). The light has gone off for now, saving me a Honda Shop repair for today, but from what i've heard, this emission light problem stems from the Valve cover wearing down on the valves and Honda picks up the costs for repair IF YOU CAN PROVE MAINTAINANCE, but they don't tell you that unless you do your homework.
for me, from now on, i'm sticking with TOYOTA, OH WHAT A FEELING!
