Want to cool off this summer? Try the Honeywell HT-800 Table Fan

Date of Review: Jul 19, 2005

The Bottom Line:  You can't go wrong with this compact little fan that really cools off a room quickly!
We finally broke down and bought a new fan. My son s fan had seen better days. It is so old and dirty and just wasn't worth major cleaning to keep it. It had served him well, but was ready for retirement. Randall likes his room cool, actually closer to arctic cold would be a more accurate description.

Over last weekend, we went to our local hardware store, which is called Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) and looked over the fans available. There were several choices, but the one that really caught our eye was the Honeywell HT-800 Turbo Fan. It cost a mere $15.00. I liked the fact that it was made by Honeywell, a familiar brand.

The picture on the box shows a sturdy-looking little fan. This fan would be the perfect size and shape for the window and window sill of my son's room, so we bought it.

This fan is aerodynamically designed. Its face is flat but in a circular shape and approximately 8 inches across. The back is rounded which pulls air into a tunnel shape and pushes it out the front. This little fan is a powerhouse. It is able to swivel up or down, which is a big plus in our book. With those hot summer days now with us, if you're feeling really warm, you can point the fan directly at you and you'll be cooled off in no time. But you don't always want a fan blowing directly on you, so you have the swivel ability to point it elsewhere to circulate the air without moving the entire unit.

There are three settings: high, medium, and low. A small, hidden handle grip is built into the back/top of the fan unit and can be used for carrying the fan around easily. As soon as we took it out of the box and plugged it in, we saw that we had indeed, made the right decision because it fit perfectly on the window sill - and it was just right. The depth of the entire unit is not over 6 inches. Turning the power button on was absolutely simple, with it being located at the top back near the built-in handle. When turned on, the fan sounds very quiet too, even at the highest setting. It is really quite powerful and for such a compact machine sure puts out a breeze blast, which Honeywell calls "Turbo Force".

Our new little Honeywell HT-800 Fan's color is black. I hope it won't show the dirt quite as much as the old white fan did. When it does gather dirt or dust, all that is recommended is to take a soft brush or cloth to wipe it off (it's made of a heavy plastic), making sure it is unplugged first, of course. The base is also wide enough that the unit does not tip over when set on a flat surface.

Although we did not choose to do this, the fan is able to be easily mounted on a wall. This would obviously help you save space.
