A leading consumer organization picked this as the best value under $600, and I agree.
This range has 2 9500 btu burners, a 12000 btu high output burner, and a 5500 btu simmer burner. Most ranges have 4 burners of around 9000 btu output. The high output 12000 btu burner allows you to bring your soups and sauces to a boil much faster, and the simmer burner allows you to simmer these at a much lower tempature so there is a much reduced risk of burning or scorching the bottom of your pans.
This range is also self cleaning, and has an upswept top and sealed burners for ease of cleaning. A full line GE range with these features sells for at least $600. The only difference is that the Hotpoint has the burner control markings are on the plastic knobs, and on the GE the markings are painted on the stove itself. This also has a clock-timer, electronic ingition, and oven light. Some retailers sell the range with a LP (propane) kit included if needed. If not, GE will sell you the kit for less than $20.
This is an excellent value. This is available in Almond with black accents, White with black accents, and all white. You may pay as much as $50 more for the all-white version. This is due to the cost of high tempature white paint for the door, but may be negotable.
