My new Hyundai Elantra is a fantastic car! We bought is solely for the gas mileage, which is 37 mpg around town and 40 mpg on a trip. When we bought it, gas was $3.00 or more per gallon and we needed an economy car, so we traded in our Subaru Baja. It was a difficult choice because we loved the Subaru so much, but it didn't compare with the Elantra for gas mileage.
The dealers couldn't do enough for us, so we held out for a blue Elantra, which had to be shipped the next day. We got top dollar for the Subaru, and had to finance only $6000.00 for the new car. This cut our car payment in half, because we still owed money on the Subaru.
The Elantra has power windows, power outside mirrors and power steering. We opted for an automatic transmission, since my husband has health problems and cannot operate a clutch now. The Elantra is easier for him to get into and out of as well.
The car came with a radio/cd player with XM for free for 3 months. We didn't renew it when it expired.
The Elantra is easy to park because of its small size and I love driving it. It has plenty of power to merge onto the interstate and it performs well in heavy traffic. The Elantra handles well, too.
There are various storage places inside the car--one for sunglasses, three storage areas in the center and of course, a glove compartment with plenty of room. Floor mats were included and there are cup holders as well. The trunk is large enough for all of our suitcases, Christmas presents, etc. There is a cruise control on the steering wheel that is easy to operate and easy to see. We don't have to look away from the road to turn it on and off.
The reliability is excellent. The only time we took it to the dealer was for a recall a part of the gas tank, which they changed for free.
My husband is impressed with the mechanics (the gear ratio) and the technical side of the car. I'm impressed with the practical side of the car.
The warranty is great. It includes everything from bumper to bumper. We paid a small premium to extend the warranty for the lifetime of the loan (5 years).
We just returned from a 300 mile trip and the weather was terrible coming home. However, my Elantra peformed perfectly and I had no trouble at all handling it in buckets of rain. After I turned it over to my husband, of course, it quit raining.
I think the car is cute, too. It has everything we wanted and it is the perfect car for us.
