Five Piece Baby Band Set

This band set has five pieces: the octopus drum which plays a song, the fish tambourine which has a see through side with three jingle bells, the lobster maraca whose claws dangle and flop around, the starfish cymbal which has a bumpy texture, and two clam shakers which are held together with Velcro. The octopus drum holds the other four pieces which makes it easy to keep all off the band together.

My son received this as a gift. At first he played with all of the pieces. He quickly decided that the lobster maraca and the clam shakers were his favorites and he ignored the other pieces. Overall, though, he gets little enjoyment out of this band set. The toys hold his attention for only a very brief time.

As a parent, I’d rate the band pieces as okay but nothing special. The octopus drum plays a song if you squeeze one of the legs. The song is very loud and has an annoying twang which is due to being cheaply made. If you bang on the drum, it does not sound like a drum. The starfish cymbal is rather boring. If you rub your fingernails across the bumpy texture, it makes a noise. However, that seems to be too complex of a behavior for my 8 month old to copy. The fish tambourine with the jingle bells, the lobster maraca, and the two clam shakers are fun to shake.
