N26 is #1 for the bang and the buck...

After serious comparison with Yamaha's units, Bose's 201's and 301's and, Polk's, KLH's, Sony's and even JBL's other speakers in the series including their S series I bought the N-26's. Using side by side comparison testing when possible and some driving back and forth to different stores for several days no other speaker seemed to provided the clarity and down right punch of the N-26's. In some instances they sounded better than many of the towers on display.


Sound dispersion between the speakers (both speakers facing forward approximately 8 - 10 feet apart with me standing in the center of the two approximately 5 feet back) was definitely a plus compared to the others that seemed to just throw the sound outward. These speakers seemed to disperse outward evenly and uniformly making them excellent choices for surround speakers and rears on a Home Theatre System.


Mounting, however, was a task in itself. The half moon shape of the back of the speaker is good IF you are wanting to direct the speaker downward or upward when mounting on a wall. Box type enclosures make this a bit more challenging but it can be done and brackets galore can be found to accomplish this. The most aggravating part is after you buy these great speakers you find they do not come with mounting hardware. Looking at the manual you see they are "sold separately". Go to the JBL website and their about $40-$50 bucks! YET! I found a work-around for this. Buy some shelving L shape brackets at Wal-Mart, some bolts to fit the mounting holes in the speakers and wood screws for the wall. Bend your L brackets into a 4 sided V, mount to the wall, and bolt to the speaker. If you want a diagram of the 4 sided V send me an email at BOSSC351@aol.com
