Author's Review
We bought the Jenn-Air Stainless Steel gas range last summer, and it has worked great so far. We purchased the range primarily because we loved the way it looked (yes, I am that shallow) and the price seemed reasonable when compared to other similar stoves. We have really enjoyed using the stove, and we especially love all of the burner options. The four burners all have different options (small, medium, large and dual), and we have begun to rely on the different burners depending on what we're cooking. The instruction manual is very helpful regarding which burners to use, and it also provides recommendations regarding the size of flame. The burners are very easy to adjust, and I'm finding that I'm burning a little less food now that we actually have a nice stove!
The oven also works great, although I must admit that we don't use it very often. The oven setting screen is rather complicated, and we are still trying to figure it out. It is not based on common sense, and I find myself looking at the instruction manual on a regular basis. It has a ton of modes, and you can even program the time and temperature for your favorite recipes. The convection oven is also great, and it allows you to bake more items (there are three racks) in less time. The only major problem we've personally experienced is that our timer doesn't work. I recently e-mailed Jenn Air, and they responded very quickly. We will be getting somebody to fix it, and will update this review depending on satisfaction. As far as I can tell, it is a warranty item.
One major downside has been the ease of cleaning the range. It is probably difficult to keep clean because it is stainless steel, but I find myself constantly wiping it down. The cast iron grates are also difficult to keep clean, and I am also wondering whether they rust if not completely dry because I've noticed small brown spots that have developed. They can be eventually scrubbed off, but its rather annoying.
You may also want to buy an exhaust hood for the stove. The range doesn't have the downdraft feature (which we didn't want, since it didn't look like it would work that great), and the house can get smoky depending on what we're cooking. Our town building code doesn't require a hood, but I think it might help prevent the fire alarm from going off.
I do know that this range can be tempermental, and I am aware that others have had problems (in fact, a friend has had a lot of problems). Even knowing those problems existed, we still decided to buy the range because of the features, price and looks. So far, we are extremely satisfied with this purchase. I'm hoping that it keeps working great, since we really love this range.
