For Complete Coffee Convenience
Date of Review: Jan 26, 2009
The Bottom Line: Considering you fall into one of the above categories, you'll really ike this machine. I highly recommend the Keurig for those who treasure convenience above all.
I work in a local retail store and have used the Keurig B40 Elite for demonstrations and tastings. I do not own one, because I am not the only coffee drinker in my house. My mother and I can go through a 10-cup pot of coffee in the morning, so buying a single-dispense machine like this Keurig is sort of unnecessary and less cost effective than using a regular coffee maker. But I'll get into that aspect later in this review.
The machine, first of all though, works wonderfully...the coffee brews in a matter of seconds, and the cleanup is so easy it's almost a sin. It's just a matter of opening up the latch and taking the used Kcup out. The coffee comes out piping hot and fills a rather nice sized coffee mug. And if you can't figure out how to use it, I feel very sorry for you as most of it is very intuitive.
The unit looks very stylish and even professional. It would be nice if there were more color choices rather than just black and stainless steel, though. If I purchased this, I would not like the look next to my white kitchen appliances! That's just my preference, however.
The unit is VERY large. It's rather heavy too. It would not be easily moved with the water reservoir filled.
There is a "My Kcup" available that allows you to use your own coffee. Most customers that purchase this unit have one of these and are very pleased with them!
Returning to the issue as to why I wouldn't personally get one of these: In all, you would buy a Keurig single serve coffeemaker if:
*You are not picky about your hot chocolate. (And I am very picky about my hot chocolate! :o) To me, the hot chocolate the Keurig makes is tasty, but VERY watery, I'd rather use milk and a microwave or stovetop, and be able to control how much hot chocolate mix I use.)
*You aren't picky about your brew strength.
*You live alone and do not drink many cups of coffee a day.
*You are the only hard-core coffee drinker in the house, but everyone else likes a different hot drink.
*You are the only one in your house that likes flavored (or even unflavored) coffee.
*You're worried that your toddler will get curious and will knock over your 12-cup pot of freshly brewed very HOT coffee.
I think you'll be pleased with the Keurig if you fall into any of these categories. However, if you don't, you may find there's way too much packaging to throw away and the refills might get expensive. Also, stores very VERY easily run out of refills for the Keurig, as they sell quickly, potentially leaving you without your joe.
Bottom line, this unit is about convenience, convenience, convenience...and the Keurig single coffee dispenser does it extremely well!
