Finally, Final Fantasy Action but good enough for kids
Date of Review: Sep 8, 2003
The Bottom Line: I recommend this game to any hardcore Final Fantasy fan willing to look for a different approach.
It's about time that Square released something as good as their popular Final Fantasy series which has been the most successful series I have ever seen. Even more successful than that of Super Mario or Megaman. Anyways, I bought this game because I love the Final Fantasy games, but was also looking for a change. I heard that Kingdom Hearts had what I was looking for so I picked it up. I wasn't disappointed. Square had effectively come up with yet again a whole new universe dipped with Disney's ingenious creativeness by adding in their 3D adaptation of the worlds of some of their most popular movies such as Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Alice In Wonderland. The battle system was completely re-done in this game. Instead of the classic turn-based battle system, it was made to be completely real-time so that you could be susceptible to danger at all times. The AI got a bit annoying at times, but that's to be expected in a game this big. The cinematics in Kingdom Hearts are amazingly done. The best graphics, however, only turn up in the very beginning and very end of the game. The regular in-game graphics are still amazing though. The worlds that you are thrown in to are amazingly done and completely free to roam around. The bosses are challenging enough to keep you busy, plus there are many side-quests and mini games for you to complete. WARNING! SPOILER AHEAD! DON'T READ BOLD TEXT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE THE GAME SPOILED: The best part of this game, in my opinion, is that you get to fight the one and only Sephiroth as sort of a "final challenge". He's the hardest boss in the game (harder even than the final boss!). The only thing that disappointed me was that you don't get any bonuses for beating him :-\ Oh well...
END OF SPOILER!
Well, that's pretty much all there is to this review of Kingdom Hearts. I hope you find it helpful and if you haven't played the game yet...GO PLAY IT!!! hehe.
