Author's Review
We already own a KitchenAid stand mixer and have been very pleased with it. That beauty is now twenty-eight years old and is in terrific condition. The downside is the weight and inconvenience of using it for everyday cooking.
I recently decided to replace my Betty Crocker hand mixer, which was on its last legs, with a new hand mixer. I was hesitant to spend a lot on a hand mixer, and I found this mixer on Ebay for $39.99 with free shipping. I was nervous about the mixer, since I had read mixed reviews about it.
When the mixer arrived, I noticed that the beaters appear, at first glance, to be relatively unsubstantial, with very thin wires. Other than that, the mixer looked fine and ready for use.
I first used the mixer to make whipped cream after dinner. The mixer worked FAST - 2 or 3 minutes and we had whipped cream! We have since used the mixer for cupcake and muffin mixes, gravy, and pudding. I have even started using this mixer for mashed potatoes. I have not used the secondary attachments that came with the mixer, and I doubt I will. The manufacturer could probably sell the mixer without these seemingly worthless "extra" attachments, and the consumer would be none-the-wiser.
Unlike other reviewers, I have never had a problem with the mixer being powerful enough. If anything, the speeds are slightly TOO powerful at a 1 or 2 setting. Maybe I just got lucky, but my KitchenAid hand mixer is one of my Best Friends in the kitchen. I am convinced this is the best possible mixer that you can purchase at this price-point. My only regret? This model does not come in the cute colors that other KitchenAid hand mixers do - such as pink, green, pumpkin, etc. I had to settle for white.
