Author's Review
Over the years there are many gifts I have received but the one I find myself using most is my Kitchen Aid Mixer. After many countless different types of hand and stand mixers, we finally made the investment and purchased a Kitchen Aid. We wanted something that was going to last and this was our choice after several shopping trips to different stores in the area. When we got married my husband said it would be nice to have a good stand mixer but we were pinching pennies and got a cheap model. We made the same mistake several times but this time I think we got it right. We would have been better off buying the kitchen Aid mixed from the start.
Bringing this Baby Home
I can still remember when I lifted the box and said I thought it was loaded with concrete blocks. I couldn't believe how heavy the box was. I'm telling you, this mixer weighed more than two or three of the other mixers I've had in the past. I knew my husband would have to move it for me from time to time so I better do some fancy baking with it to keep him happy. When we first used it, it was so quiet you almost didn't know it was running. We now knew why it weighed so much. My husband does do a lot of the cooking so we both had numerous opportunities to use this mixer.
Features
The basic model has everything you'll ever need for using the mixer. It comes complete with a 5 quart stainless steel bowl, a flat beater, a stainless steel wire whip, and a dough hook. There is an attachment hub on top that allows you to use the power of the machine for several other attachments that are sold separately. The first addition on my list will be the meat grinder which looks like the best of the selection but they aren't cheap and you'll have to pick and choose the most important or useful to you.
The machine has 10 speeds for different uses. The slowest is stir speed, 2 is slow mixing, 4 for mixing and beating, 6 for mixing and creaming, 8 for fast beating and whipping, and 10 for fast whipping. Other intermediate speeds give you speeds for your other mixing chores.
Recommendations
When you are first in the market for a stand mixed, in your kitchen, get the Kitchen Aid mixer. It costs quite a bit but I think you will agree that it well worth the money. It even comes with a very detailed booklet that talks about your manufacturers warrantee as well as a many recipes for everything like crab meat dip, breads, biscuits, rolls, and even banana nut bread. I use it all the time to make homemade pizza crust. It really does a great job without getting all over the counter top.
Start with the NUMBER ONE mixer on the market and you'll never need to purchase another mixer. I'll bet it lasts long enough fro you to give to your daughter when she gets married and her to give to her children.
