A Bad Choice

The Bottom Line: Do not buy. Low cost ink and printing speed claims are not true
I am very disappointed with the Kodak 5500 and will be returning it to Kodak. Right out of the box I felt the setup instructions were vague and I feel the same way about instructions for Scanning and photo reproduction. Print quality is poor. Black and white reproduction is not as sharp or as dark as previous printers I have used, and color prints are dull and washed out. The unit is very large, but seems cheaply made. Printing, especially first print, is very slow and the unit clunks, squeaks and groans while it is waiting to print. I purchased the 5500 because of claimed lower cartridge costs. I have made less than 200 copies with my printer and have already had to replace the black ink cartridge and the color cartridge is low. Forget the low cost ink claim. Paper jams are common when using anything other than 20 lb. paper and it has never printed an envelope without tearing it up or printing it crooked. Small point, the white color is harder to keep clean and does not match any of my other computer equipment. I regret that I can't use offensive language when describing the 5500. Ask me how I really feel.
